If you have never lived around rural farm cats, you are in for a surprise as to how undomesticated cats can be if given the choice. Sure, they seem just like indoor kitties in that they rely on your for regular meals, they eat dry cat food, they like their ears and (sometimes) tummies scratched. But unlike indoor kitties, outdoor cats love to kill things and I mean LOVE it. Sometimes they eat them, but mostly they leave the mangled carcass for the humans as a gift - or warning, I'm not sure which.
Cat carnage is a daily occurrence around here. Lester's usual sacrificial offering is field mice, rats, bunnies and birds. Wanda's is more large lizard, snakes, frogs (not toads) squirrels and pretty much anything she thinks she can deliver a kill bite. I recently made an off the cuff remark regarding cats inability to dig and catch moles. I think Wanda must have gotten wind of this insult because this morning when I went out to feed the horse the "Calico Killer" had struck again leaving me a carcass nearly the size of 'Zippy'.

Yes, this is an adult mole, now deceased. It was stupid enough to tunnel into the garage and she nailed that sucker. And of course, once again, she left the body for the humans to dispose of. Why thank you, Huntress. I stand corrected.
