A huge storm kicked up last night and included hail, severe lightning and roaring thunder that shook the whole house. The Bear spent most of the night trying to squeeze his huge self under furniture. The lightning and thunder have calmed down considerably but it's still pouring rain and the flood advisory has kicked in again for everywhere around us. Today looks like it's going to be an indoor day.
Yesterday we had to run to the vet because Buttons (Pretty Pony) has an abscess on her side that continues to grow. It was buzzing with activity, which is normal for a Saturday.

Horses visiting the vet as a group.
We couldn't get a vet out to the house until Tuesday and unlike the happy horses in the picture, Buttons does not travel well. He gave us antibiotics in the meantime and instructed us to put a compress on it to see if it would drain. Giving your horse a shot and asking them to hold still while you hold a compress on a sore spot - well our horse anyway - is next to impossible. She did ok with the compress but when I even attempted to get near her butt with that giant shot, she freaked out, rearing up and snapping the lead line, racking her head on the barn doorway in the process. I was convinced she had given herself a concussion. We left her halter on but gently let the lead line go and let her recover from that for a while and I went out later and did the compress again. To that, at least, she is agreeable. But no go on the giant needle in the ass. I'm going to leave that for the vet, their used to getting kicked by horses.
Here's hoping our little equine friend makes a speedy recovery because Lester is limping and we need to hustle him off to the vet next. Ah, the joys of farm animals.
